In this case study, we develop a software application that performs object recognition and tracking in video footages. This technique is also known as “computer vision”. Its key functionalities include:
Receiving video streams from IP cameras, detecting vehicles and tracking their movement to judge if they violate traffic laws (e.g. red light crossing).
Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR): uses optical character recognition on camera images to automatically read vehicle registration plates.
Video storage and retrieval: video from RTSP streams (IP camera) will be recorded and/or re-streamed to other clients over protocols HLS, MPEG-DASH… It can also include a transcoding process (decoding/scaling/encoding).More
We develop electronic hardware, firmware, and software for a controller which reads data from various sensors to monitor pollution indicators in water environment such as temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), chemical oxygen demand (COD), ammonium (NH4+), etc. Data collected by the controller is transmitted to the cloud-based backend software via GPRS or 3G, depending on the availability of signal.
User can remotely configure behavior of the controller by sending commands via the internet.
The controller’s firmware can be updated remotely to simplify bug fixing and maintenance process.

- We developed electronic hardware, firmware and software which automatically detect wildfire and determine fire risks based on environmental sensor data.
- Camera-based wildfire detection: the software pre-processes and filters noises (frog, clouds) from color images, then converts to gray image to detect smoke contours. Depending on movement of smoke contours, we apply learning machine algorithms to decide whether wildfire occurs or not and sends SMS alert to users.
The vessel monitoring system is capable of analysing video footages (recognize and count objects) to detect vessel moving in and out of a dock or finishing port.
